Know More Small Talk
Game rules
-
To start the game, deal one card at a time to each player until all players have 10 cards each.
Place the remaining cards face down in the middle of the players. This is the PLAY pile.
Take the top card from the play pile and place it face up next to the play pile. This is the starting card of the GAME pile.
Note: If you are using the "Personal" cards, hand these out to each of the players now.
-
Players take it in turn to play one card from their hand on to the game pile. The youngest player starts first.
If a player is unable to play a card, they must pick up the top card from the play pile.
Once a person has played their card, play moves a clockwise direction around the group.
-
When a player plays their last card on the play pile, they must share one thing they have learnt about another player during the game. If they can't remember anything, they must pick up 4 cards from the top of the game pile and play continues.
Expansion packs
I’d Like to Know conversation starters
I'd Like To Know... conversation starters cards can be used on their own, or in a Know More Small Talk (KMST) game. To use these cards as part of the KMST game:
Place the I'd Like To Know... conversation starter cards face down next to the KMST play pile.
When an "I'd Like to Know" card is played in the KMST game, the player takes a card from the top of the I'd Like To Know... conversation starter card pile and asks a question from the card.
Once the question has been asked, the card is placed back at the bottom of the I'd Like To Know... card pile and the KMST game continues.
Additional prompt card packs
Additional prompt cards can be used in a Know More Small Talk (KMST) game a number of different ways.
Additional prompt cards can be shuffled through the KMST deck and used like the standard KMST "Prompt" cards.
Additional prompt cards can be left face-down in a separate pile (next to the KMST play pile), and "Personal" cards are shuffled through the KMST deck. When a "Personal" card is played in the KMST game, the player takes a card from the top of the Additional Prompt card pile and asks the question from the card.
Variations on the games
-
Remove the PROMPT cards from the KMST card pack and set them aside.
Divide the remaining cards evenly amongst all players.
Players hold their cards face-down, and take it in turns to place one card from their pile face-up onto a game pile.
If there is a match (either card type, emotion, or colour), the first player to call out “Snap!” and place their hand on the top of the game pile wins all the cards in the pile. All cards in the game pile are added to the winning player’s pile.
OPTIONAL: The winning player can choose a card from the PROMPT card pile for all players to answer.
The game continues until one player has collected all the cards.
-
Take all the Face cards from the KMST card pack and set aside all other cards.
Shuffle the face cards and place them face down on the table.
Players take turns to flip over two cards.
If these two cards match (both colour and facial expression), the player keeps these cards and has another turn.
If these two cards don’t match, the cards are placed face down again and the next player has their turn.
The game continues until no more cards are left to turn over.
OPTIONAL: to make the game easier for younger players, try matching on only the colours OR only the facial expressions.
